Fritz Hansen Launches the N02™ Recycle Chair Made of Household Waste

Japanese design studio nendo has designed a collection of stackable chairs made of recycled household plastics. The all-purpose N02™ Recycle chair is the second time collaborating with Fritz Hansen after previously launching the wooden N01™ chair back in 2018. The latest release is the first time the Danish furniture brand has produced a chair in colored, recycled polypropylene, a material that comes from plastic waste that’s collected, processed, and upcycled in central Europe.

The N02™ Recycle chair features a rounded and curved backrest that gently wraps the body while it’s seated. The chair’s most notable detail, and what inspired the design, is a single ‘fold’ line that runs horizontally on the back, marking the lumbar support, as well as becoming a visual connection between the back and surrounding tabletops.

The N02™ Recycle chair collection includes five different versions and seven shell color options – Dark Orange, Dark Red, Dark Blue, Grey, Off White, Light Blue, and Black – inspired by warm tones found in Scandinavian nature.
