Humanscale Names Sergio Silva as New Design Director

Humanscale has announced the promotion of Sergio Silva to the position of Design Director. Serving as an Industrial Designer for Humanscale for the past four years, including most recently as interim lead on the design team, and as a design prototypist for the company before that, Silva boasts over 12 years of experience with the leader in ergonomic design for the workplace. He served as lead designer on several notable products, including the Nova task light, which won the prestigious iF Design Award in 2019. As Design Director, Silva will be responsible for leading day-to-day operations and setting the strategic vision of the Humanscale Design Studio.

With a modern sensibility for design, Silva focuses on producing balance in his designs by concentrating on function, visual appeal, and impeccable user experience. Silva shares, “I hope to inspire the team to continue pushing the boundaries of what we think is possible as we consider the strategic vision of Humanscale's future products. My goal is to serve as a constant reminder that as designers and engineers we hold the ability to have a real impact on individual lives.”

"We're excited to see Sergio step into this new role,” says David Wong, Vice President of Product Development Design & Engineering. “Humanscale's industry-leading, high-performance ergonomic products are designed with functionality, simplicity and longevity at the forefront -- a philosophy shaped by the legendary Niels Diffrient. I know that Sergio will lead the Humanscale Design Studio to continue this legacy of human-centered design and create workplace solutions that have a positive impact on the health of our customers and on the natural environment.”

Silva plans to work closely with Humanscale's sustainability team to ensure that the company continues to set the standard of what it means to design environmentally-conscious products. Humanscale aims for a Net Positive environmental impact in its design and manufacturing operations and has always championed the longevity of its products; a value that is close to Silva's heart.

"I never wanted to work for a company whose products would end up in a landfill in a few years. Even as a young design student, I knew I wanted to work on things that would last and have a genuine impact on the lives of the people who used them,” shares Silva. “Humanscale, in many ways, is every designer's dream. Working for an organization that believes in building quality into its products, while also solving real problems with simplicity and sustainability in mind is very appealing.”

Outside of Humanscale, Silva has been involved in several design ventures since studying design at Pratt Institute, including a creative consultant role at Still House, a trend-setting retail concept in NYC.
