Bureau wants to be 'Casper of office furniture'

Bureau, a newly launched direct-to-consumer e-commerce company, sells office furniture online with just a few clicks.

“We founded the company on three pillars: easy, affordable and flexible,” said Greg Hayes, co-founder and CEO of Bureau. “We like to think of ourselves as the Casper of office furniture.”

The company currently offers five products: an ergonomic chair, standing desk, filing cabinet, office desk and a quad desk for shared workspaces.

Bureau also offers customers free space planning and delivery to the 48 contiguous states and Canada through the online platform. Assembly is currently offered for customers in New York and Philadelphia.

“More than 9 million tons of office furniture ends up in landfills every year,” said Sib Mahapatra, co-founder of Bureau. “We know needs change, so with our Bureau Works program... we let customers trade in old furniture as they grow, so we can refurbish and resell it.”

Although the original intention was to be completely online, Hayes says the company currently has a small pop-up showroom in Manhattan and plans to open a second one in San Francisco later this year.

Prices range from $350 for an ergonomic chair to $1,000 for a complete office package of a chair, desk and filing cabinet.
