Suddath acquires historic Jacksonville furniture provider

Jacksonville-based The Suddath Companies, North America's largest commercial moving company, announced Monday its acquisition of office furniture provider Perdue Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition adds to Suddath's capabilities in planning, furnishing and relocating offices.

“Clients can expect to experience the best of both companies – a total solution for all of the planning, furniture and moving needs a business has when contemplating re-engineering or relocating its workplace,” Mark Scullion, president of Suddath Workplace and Commercial Services, said in a statement. “Customers now have more options for bundling furniture and services for greater cost savings, convenience and efficiency.”

Perdue was founded in Jacksonville in 1916. The company designs and furnishes customized workplaces for offices in banking, finance, health care and more, and it is the only distributor of Steelcase products in Jacksonville and Tallahassee.

“We know that furniture can significantly impact the way a company operates,” said Scullion. “Now, besides using the latest technology to reduce the stress and improve the efficiency of office relocations, we will help clients create and support workplaces that boost creativity, increase productivity and support employee recruitment and retention.”

Suddath will consolidate its Jacksonville office furniture dealership into Perdue and will keep Perdue's Jacksonville and Tallahassee locations.

“As we wrap up one of our best years ever, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to become part of the Suddath organization,” Vince McCormack, president of Perdue Inc., said in a statement. “It’s the perfect time for Perdue to reach beyond our current potential and continue to grow in North Florida.”
