ASID Applauds Bill Passage

The American Society of Interior Designers’ top federal legislative priority has been passed by Congress as a part of the tax extenders bill.  The Real Estate Investment and Jobs Act of 2015 included a revision to the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act. As a result, interior design businesses stand to benefit as reforming FIRPTA carries with it job creation opportunities for them on commercial and residential properties for many years to come.

Fifty-one creatives were invited to put their spin on the classic VITRA wire chair by charles and ray eames, and given completely free reign to transform the iconic design in a manner they saw fit. conceived by the likes of matali crasset, odile decq, noé duchaufour-lawrance, edouard françois, christian louboutin, jasper morrison, inga sempé and philippe starck, to name a few, the result is a series of expressive one-of-a-kind pieces — from a lamp by patrick jouin, to a barbecue by 5.5 design studio. the 51 unique creations were auctioned off by simon de pury to raise funds for la source, an educational and social action initiative created in the 1990s by french artist and painter gérard garouste. the group assists underprivileged youth to achieve personal goals through artistic development.

Half of the dynamic design couple whose grabbag of inventive projects became synonymous with post-war Modernism, Ray, who had been widowed a little less than two years prior, was then living by herself in the trailblazing Case Study house she built with her late husband Charles. Known for its pioneering layout and polychromatic interior, the home, decorated with the vast quantity of objects, artwork, and collectables accrued by the couple over nearly four decades together, must have been a potent source of memories.

The demand for office space in Europe grew over the third quarter of 2015 with total take up of over 3 million sq metres, on a par with the previous third quarter peak seen in 2007, according to new figures from property consultancy JLL.

U.S. Adds 271,000 Jobs in October

Construction added 31,000 jobs last month, which is the strongest growth for the industry since February. Architectural and engineering services added 8,300 jobs—the strongest month in 2015 to date. Manufacturing job growth flatlined, but that is an improvement from two straight months of job losses.
